><p>Durant la seconde moiti\u00e9 du XIX\u00e8me si\u00e8cle, \u00e0 l\u2019initiative du Roi L\u00e9opold II, une mission d&rsquo;exploration command\u00e9e par Stanley est charg\u00e9e de reconna\u00eetre le bassin du Congo et d&rsquo;y installer des stations. Ces pionniers avaient d\u00e9j\u00e0 compris que le d\u00e9veloppement du centre du Continent Africain passait par l&rsquo;exploitation du fleuve Congo et de ses affluents.
